1 to 1 Laptop Program

School ICT Vision

Wynnum State High School’s ICT vision is to develop a “confident and resilient community of learners that responds to the future in clever and creative ways”.  This reflects our Mission Statement – Proudly Building Futures Together.

Integral to this development is the necessity to embrace new technologies, and in particular ICTs, that will provide:

• A platform for exploring contemporary approaches to teaching and learning

• A capacity to extend a student's knowledge, processes and skills in ways and opportunities that have not previously been available to schools

• Highly authentic learning experiences that link and are in tune with fundamental changes occurring in the use of technology in the lives of students in their diverse “real world” contexts

Advantages of a 1:1 Learning Program

Teaching and learning will be transformed with abundant access to technology.
Exclusive use of a commercial grade, high end laptop and software at a fraction of the retail cost of a similar device with access 24/7.

Wireless connectivity across the school campus, with access to network drives, internet, online classrooms and printing.

Laptop owned, by either WSHS or EQ whilst maintained and supported by Wynnum State High School.

Students have exclusive access to a school operated Help Desk.

Accidental damage, loss and theft insurance – at home and school (excess applies).
In the case of device failure, a Hot Swap device will be supplied until replacement or repair if the delay is expected to be longer than 72 hours – three school days.

No large outlay for laptop and software due to Education Queensland’s enormous purchasing power.

A strong, sturdy carry case will be supplied.

The Plan
The 1:1 Learning Program is available to every student in the school.

Students participating in the program are allocated a laptop for use in Years 7 and 8 which is then handed back at the end of Year 8.  At the beginning of Year 9, each student will receive a brand new laptop and will use that device until the end of Year 12, at which time it will be handed back to the school.

Parents will be asked to pay an annual contribution fee to participate in the 1:1 Learning Program.

Please note that these devices are capable of connecting to most internet routers in homes.
The laptop will provide students with the following at their fingertips:
• Online virtual classrooms

• Online discussion boards and collaborative learning tools

• Subject outlines and unit planners

• Assessment tasks, feedback and results

• Digital textbooks for many of their subjects

• Industry standard software for creating, editing, designing, presenting and sharing

• Access to expertise from around the world – in real time

• Teacher and support network

• A communication portal
