Art Department News - Grease, Band Camp and more!

Art Department News
Musical: From the 20th – 23rd May over sixty committed and talented students participated in our school musical, Grease. The cast and crew presented five performances throughout the week to a variety of audiences. On Wednesday 20th May, we performed to an enthusiastic crowd from Wynnum State School.
On Thursday a wonderful group of senior citizens from our local community were dancing to the great tunes and then of course on Friday and Saturday we presented to students, families and teachers from Wynnum State High. The buzz of excitement was electric during this week and the performances were all a huge success. Thanks to all the students, parents and teachers who worked so hard throughout rehearsals and performances from the backstage and technical crews, to the band, chorus and lead actors. Thanks also to our local community who supported the project: Kyle Woodbine from Ray White Real Estate Wynnum, The Savoyards and Dave Longton and Dave Sowdon for their invaluable technical support.
Please see the below link for more photos from this fantastic night!
Community Performances: The Stage Band had a busy month performing at Mother’s Day in the Park and the Family Fun Day supporting the Wynnum-Manly Rotary club. Both performances went very well with the Stage Band playing some great jazz standards to entertain the crowds. Well done to Mrs Anderson who prepared the band for both performances.
Band Camp: Another successful Instrumental Music Band Camp was held at Alexandra Headlands in early May. Over 40 students from the Symphonic and Stage Bands spent 3 days rehearsing to improve their skills and technique on their selected instruments. The Stage Band also participated in a memorable workshop from Mr Shane Purnell. It was a lot of fun as well with a Trivia night run by the senior students and Camp Idol. Tamia Wade took out the Camp Idol winner’s prize this year for a wonderful performance. But we also celebrated the achievements of all the students who participated. For some of them it was their first public performance as a soloist. Thanks to Mrs Anderson and Mr Rander who rehearsed and conducted the ensembles and to Mr Nutley for his organisational support.
