Creative Arts - June

Creative Arts Department
Sixteen of Wynnum’s creative drama students have been working with directors and actors from Post Luminous Productions, a Brisbane-based Theatre Company to create an original theatre work.
This was an exciting opportunity for our students to showcase their own work on a real stage in front of a full audience of industry professionals, friends and family.
Variety Night was a huge success this year thanks to the wonderfully talented students we have here at Wynnum SHS. Performers from dance, music and drama presented high quality performances over three public performances. We also have a wonderful group of students who support performances in the technical and backstage crews. Many thanks must also go to the dedicated and inspiring teachers who supported the students at Variety Night and to all parents who support their child’s creative endeavours.
The Symphonic Band performed at the opening of the Wynnum Library on Saturday 28 May. The new library is a wonderful community resources and the school was thrilled to be asked to perform on the day.  Thanks to all the students who gave up their Saturday morning and to Mr Cosic who conducted and prepared the ensemble for performance.
On June 6 Wynnum SHS hosted Fanfare 2016, Education Queensland’s premier event for Band and Orchestras. The Symphonic Band, Concert Band and Big Band all competed and received very favourable reports from the adjudicator, Mr Barrie Gott.
The Big Band received a Gold Award, the Symphonic Band received a Bronze Award and the Concert Band received a Bronze Award. Well done to all students who performed and of course to their dedicated conductors, Mrs Anderson and Mr Cosic who prepared the ensembles for this competition, a great big thank you.
On Saturday 11 June the IMPS Committee hosted a Bush Dance in the Imperial Playhouse as a fundraiser for the Instrumental Music program. It is a great night of dancing, bush tucker and live music performed by the Burning Bush Band. We had over one hundred parents and students who danced the night away to some great music. Thanks to the IMPS Committee who organised this event and thanks to all those who came along and enjoyed this family friendly evening.
Senior Showcase was held on Thursday 9 June in the Star Theatre. Students from Years 10, 11 and 12 music, dance, drama and visual arts presented their work to family and friends. It was a pleasing to see the excellent quality of the work presented by the students from across the Creative Arts subjects.
