Year 9 High Resolves Summit
The members of the Year 9 High Resolves Leaders Group, participated in the 2016 High Resolves Annual Leadership Summit on the 22nd of November at the University of Queensland.
The theme of the Summit was Global Leadership and students heard from a range of motivational speakers and leaders from various fields, including Stymie.com.au and Oxfam. The students also worked together with High Resolves Leaders from other schools on social action leadership challenges. The biggest challenge they faced was working with others from schools all around Brisbane to make a storyboard for a social action video on the topic of human trafficking.
High Resolves is a non-religious, not for profit organisation focussed on leadership development for high school students. They conduct programs specifically designed to encourage teenagers to reflect on their role as global citizens and how they can make a difference to society. Participation in the High Resolves Annual Leadership Summit was a very rewarding opportunity to experience being on a university campus, meeting leaders from other schools and also hearing insights from inspirational speakers. Congratulations to all Year 9 High Resolves students on their efforts.
Year 9 Camp
From November 4th – 9th, forty Year 9 students accompanied by Mrs Hutchinson, Mrs Hawkin, Mr Ingersole, Mr Cipollone and Chappy Greg enjoyed a celebration of Year 9 at Noosa Northshore Total Adventure camp. Students participated in surfing lessons, canoeing, mountain bike riding, swimming and abseiling. The weather was beautiful and the food was delicious. A fabulous time was had by all and the students represented Wynnum High very well.
Junior Secondary students have worked hard this year setting goals to achieve their Wynnum Certificates of Education. The Wynnum Certificate of Education is awarded to students who have achieved a C level of achievement in all subjects throughout the year. Eligible Year 9 students received their WCE with their Year 9 Graduation certificate. Year 7 and 8 students will receive their certificate with their Semester 2 report card. Report cards will be mailed to families this week. We encourage you to discuss the report with your child and set some targets for the 2017 academic year.
Year 9 Graduation
Last Friday at Year 9 Graduation, we celebrated our Year 9s as they embark on their journey through the Senior School. The ceremony was attended by students from Years 7 and 8 as well as many PROUD parents. Year 9 students received their graduation certificate and eligible students received their Wynnum Certificate of Education. Once again, talented students from our music program entertained us with two uplifting songs. Thanks to Sean Gaius, Liam Prowse, Joseph Pokai and Josie Wills for their entertaining performances. We were also entertained with a video created by Harrison Niwa and Liam Prowse showing the fun we had on Year 9 camp.
Junior Secondary Captains
We would like to congratulate our 2017 Junior Secondary Captains who were announced at Year 9 Graduation on Friday. Well done to Dianne Suarez and Olivia Turner. We know you will represent the junior school well.
Thanks should also go to our Junior Secondary Captains for 2016 who have done a wonderful job. Rebecca Owens, Nadia Paranihi and Lauren Hazel have been excellent role models for our incumbent captains and have offered their assistance as Dianne and Olivia transition into their new role.
