Year 8 Science Challenge
Tower Power Challenge
The first end of term Year 8 Science Challenge took place during the last week of Term One. All of the Year 8 Science classes were invited to take part, to see which group built the best Tower.
The task set to the students was to build a tower, at least 300 mm high which could hold the most weight at the top. The students were given the following to use:
- 12 sheets A4 white paper
- 12 plastic straws
- 1 plastic tray
- 2 metres sticky tape
Groups of students in each class designed, built and tested their bridges, with two bridges from students in 8D holding over 2.85 kg without failing. This first group was composed of Harrison Niwa and Kyle White-Wheeler and the second group by Leo McCarthy, Jade McManus and Alectra Seymour. The winning teams received prizes for their efforts.
A commendable effort by all involved and we look forward to the next challenge at the end of this term.
