Academic Extension Program
2023
Wynnum State High School offers an Academic Extension Program in each year level of the Junior Secondary school. This program aims to develop academic talent in a collegiate atmosphere that allows students to not only master the core curriculum but to also develop in areas such as leadership, personal confidence and resilience.
The curriculum program of English, Mathematics, Humanities and Science will challenge and enrich students. Special projects and participation in extension activities such as university visits, Young Writer’s workshops, entry to STEM competitions and the like, aim to challenge and extend student learning. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in activities tailored to their interests and abilities. University visits and programs from local industry partners also expose students to real life opportunities.
Students are able to apply to enter this program in Year 7 through an application process. The application form is included in the enrolment pack. Students wishing to apply for this program would need to be performing at a high level of academic achievement (achieving As and Bs in Year 6) and have this reflected in not only their school reports, but also in their NAPLAN reports.
Your child’s Year 5 and most recent Year 6 school reports will need to be attached to the application form and we also require the Year 3 and Year 5 NAPLAN results to be submitted as well. We welcome any academic information you would like to submit, for example, results from ICAS testing. A letter of reference from your current primary school is advisable.
Application forms for 2023 will be available shortly.
