Creative Arts at Wynnum SHS
Wynnum SHS has a time-honoured and well established Creative Arts program designed for students from Years 7 – 12 that values the development of creative thinkers and young people as emerging artists.
Music, Drama, Dance, Media, Visual Arts and Film, Television and New Media are offered to students as an elective throughout their education at Wynnum. All Arts programs are designed to teach students the skills and knowledge they need to develop as artists in their selected field of creative endeavour, to promote creative thinking and problem solving and to allow students the freedom to express themselves artistically in a safe and supportive environment.
They are also able to participate in the Instrumental Music Program and play in either the Symphonic Band, Big Band or Concert Band as well as receive a weekly group lesson with a qualified Instrumental Music teacher on either a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument.
There are numerous opportunities for students to participate in cultural activities at Wynnum SHS. At the end of each semester there is a Senior Showcase (Years 10, 11 and 12) and Junior Showcase (Years 7, 8, and 9) for students who have chosen a Creative Arts elective in Drama, Music, Dance, Film, Television and New Media and/or Visual Art. These end of semester performances and exhibitions are presented by the Creative Arts students for family, friends and the wider community.
Wynnum SHS also offers creative arts opportunities to students who do not take a Creative Arts subject as an elective:
Every second year Wynnum SHS presents a school musical involving students from all year levels. Our most recent productions have been Grease, High School Musical 2, Popstars! The 90's Musical and The Great Australian Rock Musical.
