Wynnum State High School is transitioning from a 1 to 1 Student laptop program to a Bring your Own Device Program. After running a 1 to 1 program laptop program for many years we have decided to transition to a BYOD (or BYOx) model moving forward.

Educational research has shown that schools that migrate to a BYOD model enjoy many benefits, including:

  • improved student learning outcomes through the use of technology that facilitates learning in a contemporary educational setting
  • increased value for parents as devices will be owned by family not hired
  • the maturing of students as digital citizens who embrace digital opportunities and responsibilities using their own devices
  • the normalising of technology use between school, work and home
  • greater autonomy in the classroom
  • increased student motivation, confidence and engagement with learning because students are familiar with their own devices
  • greater opportunity for inter-school collaboration.
  • development of technological skills for future living, studies and employability

The Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) model allows students and staff to be able to access the department's information and communication (ICT) network with their personally owned devices. Students and staff are responsible for the security, integrity, insurance and maintenance of their personal devices and their private network accounts. BYOD represents more than a privately owned device; it also includes software, applications, connectivity or carriage service.

BYOD Equity Scheme & Request Form

The Wynnum State High School Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program imposes a financial cost on students and their families in supplying a device. At the same time, the program can only function if all students have access to appropriate technological resources in all their classes. Wynnum State High School takes seriously the role of public education in ensuring all students have access to the same learning outcomes. The purpose of the BYOD Equity Policy is to establish the framework for the BYOD program to provide this for all students, irrespective of their families’ financial means.

The BYOD Equity devices (school’s loan iPads) are currently available for Years 7 and 8 and for ONE term only.

Please note parents need to be a part of the Wynnum SHS Student Resource Scheme before submitting a request for an Equity device

To request an Equity device please click the link below to complete and submit the application form. You may be required to attend an interview to allow the school to gather more information for your application. Once the device is ready for collection, you will receive an email from school and your student can collect the laptop from the IT Helpdesk Window in the Resource Centre

You can access the Request Form here Equity iPad Request Form
