The last few weeks of Term 2 were definitely busy for the Arts Department. We held a number of showcases for Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Art. Our fabulous Media students also volunteered a significant amount of their time to film these showcases. Students also performed in many off campus events including competitions, conferences and gigs at varying venues.
Year 7 to 10 Drama students exercised their creative thinking and collaborative skills in creating scenes based on their favourite movies, current social issues and Australian Gothic Theatre. Their hard work culminated in wonderful showcases in the Star Theatre and Black Box Theatre.
Years 7 to 11 Music students spent the term honing their musicality and effective performance skills which in turn resulted in them producing a fantastic showcase in the Star Theatre, as well as two lunch time concerts on the I Block stage.
Junior Visual Arts students explored the principles of art making and experimented with painting, prints and three dimensional techniques. Their artworks were showcased the lobby of the Star Theatre and the feedback on their work was very positive.
This year our Dance Showcase was so popular we had to spread it over 2 evenings. Dance Showcase involved over 110 students, 30 Dance numbers, and an array of costumes and dance shoes. Dance students spent the semester exploring a range of different dance styles such as Contemporary, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre and Jazz. Year 7 students specifically focussed their study on cultural dance styles such as Bollywood, Indigenous dance and Greek Zorba. The standard of the performances was extremely high and the bar continues to be raised every year. For the first time ever we also had some Sports Aerobics teams perform in Dance Showcase, and they did wonderfully. Their hard work was evident in the performances.
While all of this was happening at school, our Instrumental Music students had their first international Band Tour to New Zealand and it was a huge success! Feel free to check out all of the students adventures that are on our Instagram and Facebook pages.
