Term 2 has been a busy one for the Student Engagement Team here at Wynnum.
The Year Level Coordinators hosted a range of activities for Mental Health Week in Week 4, including stress ball making, futsal, mindful colouring, kite flying, art therapy, touch football, chess, boxing and paper folding. The aim of the week was to raise awareness of mental health and provide opportunities for students to practice mindfulness.
Mental Health Week concluded on Friday morning with a Mental Health Market, where local mental-health related organisations were invited to come and talk to parents/carers, students and staff about services they offer and how they can support students struggling with mental health. There were games, a BBQ, market stalls and lots of really great conversations about mental health.
Thank you to the YLCs for organising such wonderful opportunities for our students!
The Push-Up Challenge: June 5 – 28
Student Ambassadors Montanna, Nathan and Freyja have been working hard to organise and promote the Push-Up Challenge. The Push-Up Challenge is Australia’s largest mental health and fitness event.
Participants are challenged to complete 3,249 push-ups (or an alternate exercise such as squats, lunges, sit ups etc.) over 24 days. Sadly, this number represents the number of Australians who died by suicide in 2022. Each day of the challenge, a Mental Health Fact will be shared on student notices and activities will be run before school and at lunches to promote the challenge. Stay tuned for more information.
Shave For a Cure and Beanies for Brain Cancer: Tuesday 28th May
Oxley House is hosting our annual Shave for a Cure fundraiser where a number of brave students will be shaving their heads to raise money for the Leukemia Foundation. All students are also invited to wear a beanie (with normal full-school uniform – please bring a gold coin donation) for the Beanies for Brain Cancer fundraiser.
