Certificate III Fitness – Training Adult Clients
The final term for our Certificate III in Fitness class has required students to train adult clients. The aim is for students to recruit a staff member to be their “55+ year old” client, complete a health screening and fitness testing session, and based on client goals, design programs to deliver two 30-minute fitness/strength sessions in the gym.
Students have completed this task well considering they have predominantly been training clients in their own age group over the last 2 years. This is a great opportunity to give students a taste of the real-world clients that they might be training in the near future.
After the Siren
Earlier this term, Eujin H in Year 10 attended an all-day workshop, run by the Griffith University Sport College and Runaway Bay Sport & Leadership Excellence Centre. The day was designed for school-aged elite and developing athletes. It included seminars on mental preparation, leadership, nutrition & recovery, personal development as well as an athlete panel Q&A for students to get an insight from some of Griffith’s elite athletes.
“Meeting Queensland Firebirds netball player, Macy Gardner, and World Championship silver medallist, Michael Shippley (para-cycling), was incredibly inspirational. I learnt so much about how elite athletes train, balance study and sport and overcome challenges.” – Eujin H.
LEAD Program – Kokoda Experience
Earlier this month our LEAD Program took a group of young men on the Kokoda Experience at Mount Cootha. This involved a variety of team building and leadership exercises aimed at harnessing the PROUD qualities that we strive for here at Wynnum. We discussed experiences of the young men at Kokoda, during World War Two, their reliance on mateship, leadership and determination in order to work for the common good.
Students engaged in a variety of exercises including stretcher bearing, communication drills, a group cook-off and discussing what they aim to bring back to the school following their experience. We look forward to our next team experience and wish the best to those working hard toward leadership roles for 2025.
