Athletics Carnival
On Friday 14th June, we held our House Athletics Carnival. It was a wonderful day with fantastic weather. Our students were prepared, had practiced their war cries and wore their amazing colours, supporting their house.
We had brilliant support from our Year 11 hospitality and recreation students on the day, working at the Railway Café Coffee cart and running field events during the carnival.
Cunningham were victorious on the day, winning the House Athletics Carnival for the year. Congratulations!

Fantastic effort by everyone who competed in this year’s carnival. Students who finished top 2 in their races have been invited to represent the college at the Bayside District Carnival later in July and Under 12 Bayside District Carnival in August.
QUT Emerging Trends Excursion
Students from our 10 & 11 Physical Education and 11 Cert III in Fitness classes took a trip to QUT Gardens Point campus on 18th June. This excursion was looking at the use of technology in sport as well as emerging megatrends in physical activity. Students were shown around the campus by QUT’s Rickie Dodd, touring the pool, gym and broadcasting centre as well as engaging in a variety of activities including E-Sports, virtual riding, and fitness & reaction testing. We finished the day with some lunch and a game of touch in the Botanic Gardens.
Cert III in Sport and Rec. Lota State School Sports Coaching
As part of our college Certificate III in Sport and Recreation course, year 12 students attended Lota State School over 3 weeks in Term 2 to teach Grade 5 and 6 various skills in athletics and ball games. This helped students prepare them for their upcoming carnival.
Students used time in class to plan and prepare session plans and implement them in real-world scenarios, teaching young students important sport skills. Both Yr. 12 and Lota SS students enjoyed these sessions and had loads of fun.
On behalf of our Yr. 12 Sport and Rec class and I, we would like to thank Mr Andrew McKenzie and the Grade 5/6 teachers from Lota State School for giving our students this opportunity.
