It has been another busy and rewarding term for HPE and Sport at Wynnum State High School. Our senior students recently represented the school with pride at the Senior Gala Day, with our girls competing in netball and our boys in basketball. Their sportsmanship and teamwork were a credit to the school. Thanks to the staff and students involved. A special thanks goes to Prue and Reese in Year 10, who umpired the netball games.
Our vocational education students continue to gain valuable real-world experience through practical coaching opportunities. During Term 2, our Year 12 Certificate III in Sport and Recreation students coached Year 7 HPE classes in touch football, developing their leadership, communication and coaching skills.
Our Certificate III in Fitness students are also preparing to begin training staff members as part of their practical assessment. This provides students with authentic industry experience while promoting health and wellbeing across the school.
The current interschool sport season will conclude in early August and has been one of our strongest yet, with excellent student participation across all year levels. Entering two teams in each year level has significantly increased opportunities for students to represent the school and enjoy competitive sport. We are also pleased to be working with the district as plans are developed to further strengthen the competition structure next year, ensuring an even more enjoyable and rewarding experience for all students.
Looking ahead, our final interschool sport season for the year will focus on recreational sport, giving students the opportunity to choose activities they are passionate about and further develop their skills in a sport of their choice.
The end of Term 2 and the start of Term 3 have seen more success for Wynnum students in representative school sport with students going on to compete at regional trials.
