House STEAM Cup: Is the Reign of Mitchell Coming to an End?
For the past four years, Mitchell has been the undisputed champion of the House STEAM Cup, clinging to the title like a koala to a eucalyptus tree. Their streak has been nothing short of legendary, but 2026 might just be the year the crown slips.
Based on the results of the first two events, it seems the winds of change are blowing, and Kennedy is making a strong case for a new era of STEAM supremacy.
Term 1: The Amazing Race – Science and HPE Edition
Our first event of the year was a high-energy Amazing Race-style competition that had students racing around the school, solving Science and HPE challenges at various stations. Think brains and brawn – the ultimate combo!
In a nail-biting finish, Kennedy’s dream team of Oliver, Tas, and Elysia crossed the finish line first, securing the win. Hot on their heels was Cunningham’s dynamic trio of Luke, Daniel, and Theodore, who claimed second place. Meanwhile, Kennedy’s second team – Harry, Ben, and Johnny – rounded out the podium in third place.
Term 2: Escape Room – Maths and Creative Arts Mash-Up
Next up, we locked our students in a room (don’t worry, it was all part of the plan!) and challenged them to crack the code to escape. Armed with their Maths and Creative Arts skills, the teams worked furiously to solve puzzles and unlock the safe containing the keys to freedom.
Once again, Kennedy proved they’re a force to be reckoned with, as Tas, Eve, and Elysia clinched their second victory of the year. Cunningham’s Luke, Daniel, and Theodore showed impressive consistency, taking second place yet again. And in a fantastic effort, Kennedy’s second team – Evie, Alice, Mia, and Charli – secured third place.
The Leaderboard So Far
With two events down, here’s how the House STEAM Cup standings look:
1st Place: Kennedy – 360 points
2nd Place: Cunningham – 280 points
3rd Place: Mitchell – 240 points
4th Place: Oxley – 200 points
It’s starting to look like Kennedy might just dethrone Mitchell this year, but let’s not count anyone out just yet. The third and final event, the Tournament of Drones, is still to come, and as we all know, anything can happen when drones take to the skies! Will Kennedy soar to victory, or will Mitchell stage a dramatic comeback? Could Cunningham or Oxley pull off a surprise upset? Stay tuned – it’s going to be an epic finish!
