Some of our First Nations students engaged in an enriching cultural experience on Tuesday when they visited the Moreton Bay Environmental Education Centre to engage in conversation with Matt Burn, a Quandamooka man.
Matt shared ancestral tales and cultural practices spanning millennia, demonstrating the use of natural materials for daily needs and showcasing traditional weaponry. He imparted wisdom on the versatile uses of various resources, demonstrated fire starting techniques, played the didgeridoo, demonstrated spear throwing, adorned our faces with traditional stingray patterns, and taught us a dance.
This experience provided our students with invaluable insights and appreciation for Indigenous heritage. We extend our gratitude to the Moreton Bay Environmental Education Centre for hosting us and to Matt for generously sharing his ancestral stories and traditions with us.
