On Tuesday, May 30th Oxley House hosted the Shave for a Cure event for 2023. Once again, the event was an outstanding success, with 16 brave students losing their locks in support of the Leukaemia Foundation. Our shavees were Byron S, Amelia W, Lilly B, Zac C, Isla N, Kaileigh C, Lucas G, Alfred D, Sam B, Holly C, Mars B, Oscar M, Leo P, Cooper H, Riley P and Darcy C. Not only did we almost double the number of shavees from last year, but these amazing young people also broke last year’s donation totals by raising over $13,600!
On the day, the Imperial Playhouse was abuzz with the sounds of clippers and cheers from the audience who had come to support the participants. We are very grateful for the wonderful hairstylists who came to do the shaving; Sienna, Jaedena, Bronte, Tammy and Rebecca, and to Felicity, owner of Naturally Organics Hair Salons, and Marianne, owner of Cambridge Hair Collective, for their support.
The Cambridge Hair Collective Team also helped us by taking the clipped ponytails to be donated to charities for the making of wigs for people experiencing hair loss after cancer treatment, and the floor hair, which is used in environmental situations such as oil spills. The Naturally Organics Hair Salon Team also had a special treat in the form of vouchers for the participants.
The Oxley House Leaders would like to thank everyone who helped support our 2023 shavees to take part in this amazing fund-raising event – the Wynnum High Community really is one of which we can all be very PROUD.
