Last Friday saw the culmination of Oxley House’s hosting of the Shave for a Cure event for 2022 – and what an outstanding event it was!
Nine of our students including Blake R, Bella T, Jacob S, Maya B, Koko D, Grace A, Seth G, Rohan S and our very own Oxley House Leader, Alexis W, bravely shaved their heads in support of the Leukaemia Foundation. We were ably assisted on the day by our three visiting hairdressers – Marianne and Sienna from Cambridge Hair Collective at Manly, and Denise, all of whom volunteered their time to support our students. Not only did the students raise a remarkable amount of money in excess
of $10,000, but thanks to the initiative of the Cambridge Hair 3 Collective Team, several of them also helped support important social enterprises to not only reduce impacts upon our planet, but to also help those suffering from medically induced hair loss.
Several students had their hair sectioned into ponytails, which were then cut off before shaving. These ponytails were then collected and will be sent to charitable organisations and wig makers for those suffering from alopecia, especially children.
As well as these ponytails, Cambridge Hair Collective also collected and removed all of the floor hair from the day. Human hair has the ability to actively absorb large amounts of oil, making it a highly effective material for cleaning up oil spills around the world. Who knew that our nine courageous students would be able to contribute so much to others, and our environment, by participating in this very
worthy event?
Thank you to everyone who supported our students in some way! We congratulate you all for your involvement and we are very PROUD of all that you have achieved!
